 Spitfire History:

he Man Who Designed The Spitfire
Reginald Joseph Mitchell (20 May 1895 - 11 June 1937) was an aeronautical engineer, best known for his design of the Supermarine Spitfire.
The prototype first flight was on 5 March 1936 and the Spitfire Mk Ia first flight on 14 May 1938. The first combat of the Spitfire was on the 6 September 1939, three days after that Great Britain declared war to Germany.
This fighter aeroplane (along with the Hawker Hurricane) fought off Hitler's Luftwaffe and foiled The F├╝hrer's planned invasion of England in the summer of 1940 during THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN. This was the first real German setback in the Second World War.
